Absentee Ballot Voter Information:
We’ve been fielding quite a few calls about absentee ballots or voting by mail, so we thought we’d share some of the more frequently asked questions and answers with all of you and perhaps we can answer a question for you!
Question: It says that I need to provide a “Four Digit Voter PIN”, but I don’t have one. What do I do?
Answer: If you have an Iowa Driver’s License or Non-Operator ID, you will need to use that number. You do not have a PIN.
If you do not have an Iowa Driver’s License or Non-Operator ID, then you will use your Four Digit Voter PIN. This is NOT the last four digits of your social security number or your voter identification number. If you need a PIN, please call our office.
Question: When do I need to get my Absentee Ballot Request back to you?
Answer: The deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to you is October 24th at 5 PM.
Question: I’ve sent in my request, but I haven’t received my ballot yet. Why?
Answer: Ballots will be issued beginning October 5th.
Question: I heard about this court injunction and I’ve already sent in a ballot request that had my name prefilled. Does that mean what I sent is no good?
Answer: There was recent Absentee Ballot Request Form court injunction in Linn, Johnson and Woodbury Counties. Jasper County voters are NOT impacted by this court injunction! Jasper County did not send a mass mailing of pre-filled absentee request forms to voters.
Question: I sent in my Request Form and now I’ve received another one. Do I need to send this one in too?
Answer: Forms have been sent to voters by various organizations including their registered party and the Iowa Center for Voter Information. In addition, the Iowa Secretary of State has just mailed Request Forms to ALL registered voters in the state of Iowa. These are all legitimate and we only need one. If you’re unsure if your request made it or you just want to double check for peace of mind, you can click here to see if your request is already on file: https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/absenteeballotstatus/absentee/search
Question: If I’ve received multiple Requests Forms and if others are receiving multiple too, are there going to be multiple ballots going out too?
Answer: Rest assured that voters who have requested an Absentee Ballot will receive only ONE ballot when ballots are issued.
