The Primary Election is an election to determine which candidates will qualify for the General Election for a given party. In Iowa you must be a member of the political party of which you wish to vote for in order to participate. This is known as a "closed primary." The primary election is held on the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in June of each even-numbered year.
Primary Election Date = June 2, 2026
Candidate Filing Begins = March 2, 2026
Candidate Filing Deadline = March 20th, 2026 @ 5:00 p.m.
First day to submit requests for an absentee ballot = March 24th, 2026
First day to absentee vote = May 13th, 2026
Office open for voting – May 30th, 2026
Last day to vote absentee in the Auditor’s Office = June 1st, 2026
ELECTION DAY = June 2nd, 2026, polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm
